Edinburgh City Mapping

One of the major projects I worked on during my time at City ID from design brief to completion was Edinburgh's city basemap.

We worked closely with Edinburgh Council, and stakeholders to develop a map which capitalised on Open Data; the collation of this information formed a big part of the process; on-site surveying, stakeholder input and mapping.

The next stage involved categorising and introducing hierarchy using GIS.

We were able to develop icons, and building illustrations using a colour palette which reflected Edinburgh's landscape, and using features of the Lato typeface to create our own visual language guidelines.

The mapping was artworked on illustrator and different levels of detail were applied for both map outputs (city centre – 1:2000 and greater edinburgh – 1:8000).
